How Pakistan salary tax is calculated
This Pakistan income tax calculator for salary applies the FBR’s Tax Year 2027 salaried-person slabs to annual taxable pay. Enter a monthly taxable salary; the estimate annualizes it across 12 months, applies progressive rates, then shows estimated monthly and yearly tax and take-home pay. It is not an official FBR assessment.
The salary income tax calculation is progressive: the rate for a bracket applies to the amount above its threshold, not to the entire salary. Annual taxable income up to Rs 600,000 is taxed at 0%; above Rs 7,000,000, the schedule is Rs 1,424,000 plus 35% of the amount over Rs 7,000,000. The 9% surcharge for salaried individuals was withdrawn in Finance Act 2026.
Rates are from FBR Circular No. 02 of 2026–27, dated 8 September 2026, and the Finance Act 2026. This estimate treats the entered amount as taxable salary and excludes exemptions, allowances, bonuses, deductions, credits, and other income.
Common questions about Pakistan salary tax
How is salary income tax calculated in Pakistan?
For Tax Year 2027, annualize taxable salary, apply the FBR salaried-person slabs progressively, and divide estimated annual tax by 12 for a monthly estimate. This calculator assumes the same taxable monthly salary for all 12 months.
What salary is tax-free for Tax Year 2027?
The FBR salaried-person schedule sets 0% income tax when annual taxable income does not exceed Rs 600,000. A person’s taxable income can differ from gross pay because exemptions and payroll details are not calculated here.
Does the calculator include allowances, bonuses, or deductions?
No. It treats the amount entered as taxable monthly salary and excludes exemptions, bonuses, deductions, tax credits, other income, and payroll-specific adjustments.
What does the effective tax rate mean?
The effective tax rate is estimated annual tax divided by annual taxable salary, expressed as a percentage. A marginal rate applies only to income within a tax bracket; the effective rate describes the overall ratio.
Is this an official FBR tax assessment?
No. This is an estimate based on FBR’s published salaried-person rates. Actual withholding and final tax liability may differ; check official FBR information or consult a qualified tax professional for your circumstances.
Which tax year does this calculator use?
It uses Tax Year 2027 (FY 2026–27), from 1 July 2026 through 30 June 2027. It does not calculate older tax years.
Do I pay 35% tax on my full salary?
No. The 35% rate applies only to annual taxable salary above Rs 7,000,000.
Can I use this calculator for freelance income?
No. It uses salaried-person tax slabs; freelance and business income follow different rules.
Why might my payslip tax be different?
Your employer may account for exemptions, bonuses, benefits, or payroll adjustments this estimate excludes.
Does take-home pay include other deductions?
No. It subtracts estimated income tax only, not provident fund, insurance, or other payroll deductions.
Is my salary stored online?
No. The entered salary is saved only in this browser and is not sent to a server.
